The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) Annual Report, published on 17 April 2008, reveals new intelligence regarding the scale of publicly available child sexual abuse websites known to the IWF.

According to the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), the number of English-language domains displaying child porn fell from 3052 in 2006 to 2755 last year, most based in Russia and the United States.

This target is characterised by websites, 80 per cent of which are commercial operations, which frequently hop host company and region to avoid detection. These tactics, coupled with the complex multi-national nature of the crimes, mean that only a united global response involving law enforcement authorities, governments and the international online sector will enable effective investigation of these websites, their content and the organisations behind them.

According to the IWF's analysis;

10 per cent of the victims photographed were less than two years old,
with a third between three and six years old.
37 per cent were aged between seven and 10 years old.
18 per cent were between 11 and 15 years old.
2 per cent between 16 and 17 years old.

The IWF tracks and records the movements of child sexual abuse websites to assist investigations and content removal around the world.

This post is about Google's decision to share account information of 3,261 suspected pedophiles with Brazilian authorities. Google just handed over private information of 3,261 individuals, without giving those individuals the opportunity to fight the court ruling.

The handover of the data, which mainly comprise of pictures and photo albums stored on Orkut, a popular social network in Brazil, was part of an initiative by the Brazilian authorities to battle pedophilia crimes on the web.

Since August, Google has started banning users who spread child pornography and hate speech regarding blacks, homosexuals and Jews. Google has added a filter to block out any pornographic content and also has provided tools for others to flag the illegal content.

Demostenes Torres, member of senate commission, believes the data will provide enough evidence to incriminate about 200 pedophiles in Brazil.

Google's Director of Communication Carlos Felix Ximenes admitted that it was the first "big privacy disclosure" allowed by Google, as the company had never provided imagery to investigators before.

Google has been cooperative with crime investigators in Brazil, fulfilling approximately 360 demands from local courts last year, he added.
